What is Reiki ?

Reiki is a healing technique and spiritual practice developed in 1922 by Mikao Usui. It’s practiced by placing your hands lightly on or just above the body. The immediate response to this touch is detoxification, relaxation and the ability of the body to regain its ability to heal itself. Reiki is a dynamic tool for tapping into and infusing ourselves from the system of universal energy that already flows in our bodies.

Jikiden Reiki is an evolution of Reiki brought to the West in the 1930's. The Jikiden Reiki Institute was started by Tadao and Mrs. Yamaguchi, mother and son in the early 2000's. JIkiden Reiki is a lineage of Reiki where Reiki remained at home in Japan and was practiced exactly as how Mrs. Yamaguchi had learned it from Dr. Hayashi at the young age of 17 in 1938. Dr. Hayashi was also the teacher to Mrs. Takata the Reiki Teacher responsible for the spread of Reiki throughout the Western world. As all practices change when new information is brought forth so it is with Reiki. We are able to return to the roots, presented now in its rich historical and cultural context from which it comes. Jikiden Reiki is being newly discovered by experienced practitioners and newcomers alike! To date there are only a little over 20 teachers in the United States.

The Reiki Healing Center was founded in 2008 to provide classes, treatments and to raise awareness in the natural healing therapy known as Reiki. Sema was first attuned to western Reiki in 2004 under the Reiki Alliance and went on to open the Center and begin her professional practice in 2008. In 2013, she had her first introduction to Jikiden Reiki and The Jikiden Reiki Institute of Kyoto, Japan through the opportunity to learn and be mentored by her current teacher, Frank Arjava Petter. Arjava sensei is the Vice Representative of the Jikiden Reiki Institute and has been a part of the Reiki world for decades with well over a dozen books written and in print to his credit on the subject. Sema went on to attain the assistant teacher status of Jikiden Reiki in 2015 and has been teaching Shoden classes since. Most recently in May 2017, she had the distinct pleasure to have earned the permission to teach Level II or Okuden classes in the Jikiden lineage.

Sema Tihan is a natural healer, and an energy intuitive.
